Spirit dolls & Poppets - understanding the difference

Though they may appear similar at first glance, spirit dolls and poppets are created with very different intentions.

A spirit doll is often handcrafted as a symbolic companion, guardian, or keeper of a particular energy. Many people welcome them into their homes as a focus for reflection, seasonal rituals, meditation, or simply as a meaningful piece of magical art. Their purpose is deeply personal and open to individual belief.

A poppet, however, has long been part of folk magic and spellcraft. Traditionally, it is created to represent a specific person and is used as a tool within magical workings, whether for healing, protection, prosperity, or other intentions.

While both have roots in spiritual traditions, they are not the same. Here in our space, our spirit dolls are created as unique handcrafted companions, each with their own story, character, and symbolism. They are not made to represent living people or for spellwork.

Over future blog posts we explore and chat about l the rich history, folklore, and traditions behind both spirit dolls and poppets in greater depth. This will include how they are used and then as each spirit doll is created a blog post can be done introducing them and their story to help them find their new home.

We would love to see comments about your thoughts on spirit dolls and poppets. If you have them or used them at all or even just that you didnt know about them and want to find out more!
